Welcome to AYSO Region 2

guidance for rating your players

As a coach, one important responsibility you have is to rate and evaluate the players on your team. Typically, player ratings are reviewed several times a year:

  • Prior to the start of the Fall season
  • Mid way through the Fall season
  • At the end of the Fall season
  • At the end of postseason programs (Example: All-Stars and Spring Cup)

One of the AYSO philosophies is 'Balanced Teams'. The rating assigned to each player is a fundamental component in enabling the formation of teams that are truly balanced and allow for an enjoyable competitive environment for everyone.

You will rate your players in separate categories. Use the table below for guidance on how to rate your players correctly in each category. When deciding on ratings for an individual, consider how their skill sets compare to other players on your team. Also consider how their performance compares to players on other teams in your division.

And be honest! You do not do anyone any favors by rating them too high or too low. Be realistic.
